How many pages a day for your reading goal?
For a full year, with books of about 320 pages read at 45 pages an hour:
| Books a year | Pages a day | Minutes a day |
|---|---|---|
| 12 | 11 | 15 min |
| 24 | 22 | 29 min |
| 36 | 32 | 43 min |
| 52 | 46 | 1 h 1 min |
| 75 | 66 | 1 h 28 min |
| 100 | 88 | 1 h 57 min |
How many pages a day to read 52 books a year?
A book a week, with average 320-page books, is about 16,600 pages a year: 46 pages a day, or about an hour of reading at an average pace. With shorter 250-page books it's 36 pages a day.
How many books can I read in 20 minutes a day?
At an average 45 pages an hour, 20 minutes a day is 15 pages, about 5,500 pages a year. That's around 17 books of 320 pages, or 22 shorter ones. Ten minutes a day still adds up to 8 books.
Am I behind on my reading challenge?
Compare the books you've finished with how far you are through the year. On November 7, the year is 85% done, so a 40-book goal expects about 34 books by now. The "Am I on track?" tab does this for today's date and tells you how many pages a day get you to the finish.
How the math works
- Pages a day = books left × pages per book ÷ days left (today counts).
- Minutes a day = pages a day ÷ pages per hour × 60.
- 45 pages an hour is a typical novel pace: adults read about 238 words a minute on average (Brysbaert, 2019), and a paperback page holds about 250 to 300 words. Real reading has pauses, so we round down.
- Everything is worked out in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
